The OnMed CareStation® earns recognition in TIME's Medical & Healthcare category for closing the gap between in-person and virtual care.
OnMed, the leader in tech-enabled hybrid healthcare, has been named to TIME's 2025 List of the Best Inventions, a recognition of a company that is reshaping how we live and work, and access healthcare.
Honored in the Medical & Healthcare category, OnMed earned this distinction for the OnMed CareStation®—an 8×10 foot "Clinic-in-a-Box" that blends the depth and diagnostic capabilities of an in-person visit with a live clinician, and the rapid scalability of virtual care. Each CareStation is a tech-enabled, AI-powered, and always human-delivered platform, built around a 65-inch HD display. It requires only an electrical outlet to operate—no construction, no permits—and can be fully operational within 45 days of contract signing.
"Being named one of TIME's Best Inventions reaffirms that innovation must do more than disrupt markets, it must solve fundamental human challenges," said Karthik Ganesh, CEO of OnMed. "That's what we're doing with CareStations around the country. This recognition underscores the vital role the CareStation plays in advancing access to healthcare everywhere."
OnMed is building essential healthcare infrastructure in partnership with insurers, all levels of government, health systems, universities, and community players. CareStations are currently deployed across seven states, entering Puerto Rico, and with aggressive expansion plans.
TIME's recognition capped a year that saw the CareStation earn a string of other honors and reach new communities. In January, the CareStation won a CES Picks Award and was named to Gizmodo's Best of CES 2025 list in Las Vegas. Momentum continued as CareStations opened in new locations throughout the year: at the Overtown Youth Center in Miami in April, funded by The Lennar Foundation; at a senior center in Reno, Nevada in May—the state's first publicly available CareStation; inside Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut in June, the nation's first airport-based CareStation, launched with Hartford HealthCare; and at two Fiesta Mart grocery stores in Fort Worth and Missouri City, Texas in July, supported by grants from Molina Healthcare of Texas. In August, OnMed was named No. 337 on the Inc. 5000 list of America's fastest-growing private companies. In September, OnMed was named a Fierce 50 honoree.
TIME's recognition lands at a moment when the gap this award is meant to highlight has never been wider. An estimated 167 million Americans delay seeking care each year, and 120 million of them point directly to a lack of adequate access as the reason. Eighty percent of U.S. counties now qualify as healthcare deserts, meaning residents face real barriers to basic medical care simply because of where they live.
This is the gap OnMed was built to close—not with another telehealth app that ends in a referral, and not with another kiosk that can't actually resolve anything, but with a physical access point that pairs a live clinician with real diagnostic tools. It's why 86% of CareStation visits are fully resolved on-site, without a referral or an ED trip, and why patients report a 4.96 out of 5 satisfaction score. It's also why 37% of CareStation patients return within 12 months without a reminder or a mandated follow-up—evidence that people come back to care that actually worked the first time. TIME's editors evaluate inventions on originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact—the same four things that determine whether a healthcare access point actually works for the people who rely on it.
To compile the annual list, TIME solicited nominations from editors and correspondents worldwide and through an open application process, evaluating each contender for originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact. Read OnMed's full entry on TIME.com, or see how TIME's editors chose the 2025 list.
